Let's take a look behind-the-scenes of our recent photoshoot in Squamish, British Columbia. North of Vancouver, Squamish is known for its stunning landscapes and waterfront views. Its natural beauty was the perfect backdrop for our shoot with photographer Avery Swail.
We interviewed Avery on her inspiration behind the shoot, how she found her passion for photography, her tips for embracing the cold weather, and the Ogee product she can't live without!
1. Tell us about the location and inspiration for the shoot!
"I have had to pivot and find inspiration in places I never thought to look before, like my backyard. Being home so much has forced me to see things differently. Coming from Canada where it's cold 90% of the time, you automatically think of places to go for campaign shoots. Now I'm looking at who has the coolest fence on my street for inspiration. It's forced me to look at things differently, to find inspiration in the here and now, for which I am incredibly grateful."
2. How did you first get into photography?
"Ironically, I went to a sports boarding school and seeing as I didn't play any sports, I was stuck trying to find a way out of playing. So, I picked up a camera, joined the multimedia team, and started shooting the team's photos instead. From there, my love of photography ignited and I have been taking photos ever since. However, it wasn't until around six years ago, in my early 20's, that I figured out that this could be a career for me. Since then, I have just been surrendering to life and letting it take me to where I'm meant to be."
3. What are some of your favorite spots and things to do around Vancouver?
"I spend most of my time in Whistler during the winter months skiing, and in the summer, I spend a lot of time in Squamish hiking and being by the river. Forced time at home has made me appreciate where I live and how grateful I am to spend days outdoors. Vancouver people are resilient when it comes to weather. Everyone is out and about in the rain. I’ve learned so much from that as I am usually the first one to escape winters, but here I am, going full-force all in this winter. Rain, snow, or shine!"
4. What is your favorite Ogee product and why?
"The Lip Oils. Hands down! They live in my bag and beside my sink. It is the most hydrating thing for my lips, especially in the winter. It moisturizes and gives a glow. Brings me looking back to life!"
