Earlier this month, the Humane Cosmetics Act was reintroduced in the US Congress. Victoria Katrinak, of the Humane Society, states, “This important legislation,” (which Ogee has proudly endorsed), "will prohibit the use of animals to test cosmetic products and ingredients as well as end the sale of animal-tested cosmetics”.
The bill declares that “No cosmetic may be sold or transported if the final product, or any component, was developed or manufactured using animal testing.” However, the bill has a long way to go and needs much support become it becomes the law.
In a press release earlier this month, Representative Martha McSally describes the methods of animal testing as “inhumane” and that “modern technology makes them unnecessary and overly expensive. The cosmetics industry is already using alternative innovative testing methods that are safer, cheaper, and don’t hurt animals". With numerous benefits of a cruelty-free future, Ogee is proud to be using cutting-edge methods of product testing to ensure the validity of our core values and philosophies.
Like the lawyer of fictional fame Elle Woods from Legally Blonde once said, we need to be the “voice for those who cannot speak”. This new version of ‘Brusier’s Bill’ will protect over 100 million animals in the U.S. alone. We share this ideal of a cruelty-free future for the industry, and proudly support all efforts made toward passing the Humane Cosmetics Act.
With the U.S. being one of the world’s largest participants of animal testing, the industry must join the growing movement for a cruelty-free future. In the last decade, “37 countries have passed laws to ban or limit animal testing for cosmetics. The Be Cruelty-Free USA campaign, led by The Humane Society of the United States and Humane Society Legislative Fund, needs additional help to make the United States the next cruelty-free marketplace” states Katrinak.
Ogee, along with “more than 190 companies support this legislative effort to ban animal testing for cosmetics”. With the continued support, other companies and cosponsors will provide the needed push forward for legislation to end the “cruel and unnecessary use of animals in cosmetic testing” explains Katrinak.
